Hydrocephalus is a neurological condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) builds up inside the brain's ventricles. This fluid accumulation increases pressure within the skull and can damage brain tissue if not treated promptly. Hydrocephalus may occur in newborns, children, adults, and elderly patients and can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired later in life due to injury, infection, bleeding, tumors, or other neurological disorders. A Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) Shunt remains the most commonly used surgical treatment, although selected patients may be candidates for Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV) depending on the cause and anatomy.
